Flow regulation is a common requirement in industrial piping systems. Butterfly valve and globe valve have adjustment function, but who is more suitable? Core conclusion: the need for high precision adjustment, choose the cut-off valve; Need large flow fast adjustment, choose butterfly valve.

Globe valve: precision priority fine tuning experts

The disc of the globe valve rises and falls along the center line of the valve seat, and the change of the valve seat port is basically linear with the disc stroke. This means that when you turn the valve handwheel, the flow rate changes evenly and predictably, allowing for fine adjustment.

In the chemical ratio, boiler feed water, steam flow control and other high precision requirements of the occasion, the globe valve is worthy of the first choice. However, its disadvantages are also obvious: the flow direction changes when the medium flows through, the resistance loss is large, and it is usually only suitable for medium and small caliber pipelines.

Butterfly valve: high flow speed with efficiency priority

Butterfly valve by rotating the disc to change the circulation area to adjust the flow, simple structure, small size, light weight, opening and closing very quickly. More importantly, the butterfly valve fluid resistance is much less than the globe valve, especially suitable for large diameter, large flow of pipeline systems, such as water supply and drainage, sewage treatment, ventilation and air conditioning.

Butterfly valve can achieve smooth rough adjustment in a large opening range, but in a small opening (such as opening < 30%), the flow change will be very violent, difficult to accurately control. Therefore, it is more suitable for occasions where fine control is not required.

So, how to choose? You can think about it in two ways

Look at the accuracy requirements: if accurate flow control is required and the pipe diameter is small, the globe valve is the most reliable choice.

Look at the pipe diameter: if the pipe diameter is large, the operation frequency is high and the adjustment accuracy is not high, the butterfly valve is more economical and efficient.

Butterfly valve and globe valve have their own advantages and disadvantages, there is no absolute who is better, only who is more suitable. Determine whether your process needs precision or high flow and choose the appropriate valve type.
